Right now, The Usos rule tag team wrestling in WWE. They hold both the Smackdown & RAW Tag Team Championships, and are ready to set records with their reigns. One thing that has been helping them secure victories is a move they call the 1D. This move is very familiar to fans of The Dudley Boys – as it is just The Usos variant of the 3D. However, they didn’t start using it without permission from D’Von Dudley atleast.
D’Von Dudley Recalls The Usos Asking Permission To Use The 3D
During an interview with The A2theK podcast, D-Von Dudley would recall Jimmy & Jey Uso asking for permission to use this move. He’d be quoted saying the following.
“They came to me during a live event. I think I was producing it with Jamie Noble, and they had asked me — we would talk and shoot the stuff. When we worked with The Usos, they were talking about when we would hit the 3D on them, and they were like, ‘Yeah, D-Von,’ especially Jey because Jey is so energetic, he’s like, ‘Yeah! We get the 3D, BANG!’ He was like, ‘I was just talking to my brother the other day, and I was like, why don’t we ask D-Von if we can use the 3D?’
I said, ‘Shit, it’s an honor and a pleasure to do that for you guys. I wouldn’t have it any other way. If my boys wanted to wrestle, which they are wrestling, but the day they get on the main stage, they’re going to want to use 3D, too,’ I said, ‘But, you can do it now. Nobody else is doing it. Plus, you’re paying homage to me and Bubba.'”
It was first used by The Usos at WWE Day One, when The Usos successfully defended the Smackdown Tag Team Championships against The New Day. Since then, they’ve taken the RAW Tag Team Championships from RK-Bro, and successfully defended against the likes of The Street Profits on a few occasions.
