Ever since Kamaru Usman lost his UFC title against Leon Edwards one of the main MMA conversations is when the trilogy bout will happen and how will it end. While many predict that Leon Edwards will have an edge by having his ‘crowd’ supporting him in the arena, Kamaru Usman is not so sure. He thinks that he might have even more fans in the UK than the Englishman himself.
Kamaru Usman lost to Leon Edwards by an unexpected and unpredictable fifth-round knockout. It happened several weeks ago in Salt Lake City at the UFC 278. It all looked like Kamaru Usman will take the win by a decision. He dominated the octagon for the majority of the time in those five rounds, so Leon Edwards had only one option left – to push forward with all that he’s got. He delivered a great head kick and gained the welterweight title.
Kamaru Usman Says He Has More Fans In UK Than Leon Edwards
Leon Edwards became the second English UFC champion in the history of the sport. He is second to Michael Bisping, who held the middleweight belt.
Despite this fact, he is just one of two English champions that ever held a title at the UFC, his reception in the UK was not something that could be noticed as extraordinary. It was just a small gathering in front of the airport, enough for a symbolic reception.
Kamaru Usman was a guest on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. He revealed that now, once the trilogy bout is finally ‘cooking’ he is confident he will get ‘plenty of love’ from the UK audience.
“Now you’re in their country, which honestly, I think imma have more fans in his country than he will.” – Kamaru Usman shared his opinion. “That’s no knock on Leon. I like Leon; I really do. Half of England is Africa. There’s a lot of Nigerians in England, a lot of Nigerians. He knows there’s a lot of Nigerians and Jamaicans. But I think I will be well represented in England.”
How will the trilogy bout end? Well, we can only wait and see. However, it is certain that it will attract massive interest.
Kamaru Usman is a fighter who rose to fame by knocking out the likes of Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns. For a person that follows MMA, this means a lot.
According to Usman, being undefeated puts a lot of pressure on yourself. Now, with one loss under his belt, and with all that weight put aside, Kama Usman will try to regain his title from Leon Edwards and become the welterweight champion of the world once more.
