Move over, Colby Covington: the UFC’s welterweight division has a new heel. Khamzat Chimaev, after missing the welterweight limit by eight pounds and forcing the UFC to reorganize the entire UFC 279 main card, flipped off the assembled fans and press. At the UFC 279 post-fight press conference, following his rapid submission victory over Kevin Holland, Chimaev simply claimed that he does not care about missing weight on his first ever UFC pay-per-view.
“You care about that sh*t? I don’t care. I care about my family. I care about my career. I care about my money. One day they’re [the fans] with me, one day they’re not with me.

So, I’m real, guys. So, I like the people that are real. Not fake people going one way or going the other way.” Khamzat, when asked if he’d be able to make welterweight in future, was optimistic in his response.
“Of course, I did that before, why not? We’ll see, I have to go back and listen to my coach. If he says 170, we go 170. If he says heavyweight, we go to heavyweight.
I’ll do my training camp, train hard and never stop. After tomorrow, I’m going back and directly going to the gym. I have nothing to do, only gym. It’s my life.”
One option for “Borz” moving forward is to compete in the middleweight division, where he might find the limit of 185 pounds a little more comfortable. He has fought at middleweight in the UFC before, but if he makes the move, there’s one man he does not want to face: former champion Robert Whittaker.
“I like that guy, so I don’t want to fight good guys.I need some bad guys, so I want to fight some bad guy, you know? And don’t feel sorry for that.
I want to train with that guy. He’s really good, like one of the best guys in the world. I was watching his fight. I’m a big fan, so I watch all things. I watch how he trains, and all these things. A lot of guys want to fight me, so Robert never said something bad about me. There’s a lot of guys talking sh*t about me. I’m gonna go take their heads off, you know? So, we’ll see.”
Is Khamzat’s heel turn going to end well for him? How do you think Khamzat would fare if faced with Robert Whittaker? Let us know in the comments.
