With how insane of a year 2022 has been in regards to professional wrestling, it’s almost hard to remember that Jeff Hardy had made his AEW debut earlier this year. After a confusing exit from WWE – Jeff would rejoin his brother Matt Hardy for one final tag team run before both retired. This was cut short due to Jeff Hardy getting another major DUI – and being suspended from competing for AEW until he completed a rehab program and proved he could sustain being sober.
Matt Hardy Teases News Coming Soon About Jeff Hardy In AEW
After being left off the card for All Out 2022 – Matt Hardy would get some questions on Twitter about what could be coming next for his career. Matt would respond to one fan with the following.
It’s all good, @realcoachrosey. Tonight’s #AEWAllOut is gonna be an epic PPV. It’s a stacked @AEW card. We’re getting close to learning my brother’s future, so I’ll be taking a definitive direction soon. I’m extremely excited to get on a path so I can haul & kick ass.
Most recently, Matt Hardy would wrestle his longtime rival Christian Cage on a match on AEW Dynamite. It’s clear that singles wrestling is not for Hardy at this stage of his career, with a long career of dangerous stunts in the ring catching up to him and harming his mobility. Despite this, Christian & Hardy were able to put together a well told story to make up for this.
Jeff Hardy’s potential return to the ring will likely be met with a very mixed reaction from fans, as many felt the choice to not outright fire Jeff following the DUI was a mistake on behalf of Tony Khan.
Taking A Side After CM Punk’s Comments
Hardy would also take a stance on the recent backstage drama caused by CM Punk’s explosive comments on the EVP’s of AEW. He would post pictures of himself with The Elite from Stadium Stampede – and one of him hugging Hangman Page, who was directly targeted by Punk in comments during the media scrum.
Hardy would also tweet the following, in regards to CM Punk tearing down key members of the roster publicly.
“I’ve lived a helluva life – I’ve accomplished incredible things & I’ve also fucked up a lot. I can confidently say I’ve learned from both the good & the bad. I don’t believe in tearing people down, I only believe in building people up.”
