Over the past few years, we’ve seen Bobby Lashley prove himself as a proper main event star in WWE. He’s claimed title after title, including two reigns as WWE Champion, and most recently was the WWE United States Champion. He’s been booked as a serious character – and Vince McMahon was keen to keep things that way – turning down a downright bizarre pitch from Lashley a year ago.
Bobby Lashley Wanted To Become Depressed And Fat
Lashley would appear on the NotSam Wrestling pod earlier this week, and while on there – would detail a weird pitch he made to Vince McMahon.
“I told Vince a year ago, I think a year or two ago, I told him, ‘I want to do this character.’ He said, ‘What is it?’ I said, ‘If I get beat one time, I want to go into the severe depression and put on like 40, 50, 60, or 70 pounds and just be fat, and then be a completely different character and then have like somebody like an MVP, or somebody that’s on my side, kind of like, pull me back and then have the crowd watch his transition back to me.’ He said, ‘There’s no way you can do that.’ I said, ‘Man, I think I can.’”
Obviously, this character never happened – and it was likely for the best. While it would have stood out for Lashley, it would have turned him into a comedy character. No doubt him & MVP would have put the effort in to make this work, and it would have been interesting seeing Lashley in poor shape for the first time of his career.
Right now, Lashley is set to work with Brock Lesnar, after Lesnar would cost Lashley the WWE United States Championship. They previously wrestled at Royal Rumble earlier this year, with Lashley getting the win. This match is set for Crown Jewel, which is the next WWE PPV set for Saudi Arabia.
