Over the past few years in WWE, one man has truly shined with his character work. Both in NXT and now on Monday Night RAW, Dexter Lumis has been the perfect horror character. He’s been kidnapping people, choking them out, and falling in love – and fans have loved just about every second of it. Now, he’s explained just what influenced his character and ring name.
Dexter Lumis Explains How He Got His Ring Name
While speaking on MCW Backstage Pass, Dexter Lumis would peel back the curtain and explain how you choose your ring name in WWE – and where the name Dexter Lumis comes from.
“It’s just, hey, you get an email and it’s like, hey pitch us five names. Anything but your own name and the intellectual property. So I basically just, I didn’t initially have the name ‘Dexter Lumis.’ I had it in the list. I don’t even know if it was Dexter Lumis, it may have been like ‘Dexter Shawshank’ or something. But the writers seemed to like ‘Dexter Lumis.’ Lumis was a play on Dr. ‘Loomis’ from Halloween, we just spelled it different for trademark reasons and whatnot. So I was always a big fan of the horror movie genre. ‘Halloween’ is one of my favourite horror movies from the 70s, early 80s. Dr. Loomis, Sam Loomis, that was the guy who I sort of based that name on, and Dexter obviously being the famous TV show, the vigilante serial killer that kills bad people.”
Since being re-hired by Triple H and coming to Monday Night RAW, Dexter Lumis has taken target at The Miz. Lumis also returned to NXT briefly to reunite with Indi Hartwell, his storyline wife. Hartwell has not popped up on Monday Night RAW yet – but is expected to move up very soon to rejoin Lumis.
