The WWE has been doing a great job with Dominik Mysterio since turning him heel and having Rhea Ripley in his ear constantly.
It’s easy to look at her as a venomous viper or vixen poisoning his mind as she’s done a phenomenal job and Dominik has been putting in his best effort and the fans have responded.
On the last WWE Monday Night Raw (October 24), Dominik played to the fan’s ire by touting himself as this generation’s Eddie Guerrero and called Eddie as his generation’s Dominik Mysterio.
It’s a great way to play into the storyline years ago when Eddie and Rey Mysterio fought for Dominik, with Eddie claiming he was his son.
With it coming full circle, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray pitched an idea that would, in our opinion, put Dominik over huge as a heel.
Changing his name
On Busted Open Radio, Bully explained his idea for Dominik taking Eddie’s last name.
“I love the relationship with Rhea Ripley. I love Rhea constantly being in his ear. Taking shots at Eddie Guerrero will always get you heat, saying that Eddie Guerrero was the Dominik Mysterio of his generation. Getting back to the name thing, I know they did the angle years ago with Eddie possibly being Dom’s dad, what about Dominik taking the Guerrero last name over the Mysterio last name. After hearing Dom talk last night, I’m saying to myself, wouldn’t it be monster heat for Dominik to renounce, drop, get rid of the Mysterio last name? There can be nothing more insulting to the family than for Dom to say that he is disgusted by this last name, he’s disgusted with ever being.”
If the WWE would do this, it’d open up so many dynamics and possible storylines as Rey would have to deal with the news on Smackdown and decide if he’s going to let Dominik find his own path or try to win him back.
As for the Judgement Day, it’d really ratchet up the heat from the fans and could propel Dominik into a power struggle with Finn Balor at some point with Ripley pulling the string from behind the scenes.
There are plenty of other ways it can work as well, given Vicki Guerrero coming back at some point is a possibility, as well as some of Eddie’s friends to help set Dominik straight.
