We’re getting closer and closer to being able to play AEW Fight Forever. The major video game debut of newcomers to the industry All Elite Wrestling has been in development for the past few years, with a 2023 release date set. We’ve seen gameplay, know that it’s releasing on Xbox Series S/X, PS5, Steam, and Nintendo Switch – but users of Xbox Game Pass will be able to play it on day one as part of the subscription.
AEW Putting Fight Forever On GamePass Puts It In Front Of 25 Million Users
Ever since THQ Nordic would be announced as the publisher for the game, things would start to move in the correct direction for this game. This is likely something that helped them get on GamePass as part of the launch. For those unfamiliar, Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that includes a large library of games, all able to be downloaded or even played through Cloud Gaming.
There is an install base of around 25 million users on Xbox Game Pass per reports from January 2022, with it likely that the number has only risen since then. This is a massive audience to put the AEW game in front of, and the Game Pass service has no professional wrestling games at the time of writing. WWE have never put their games on the service, leaving this as an untapped market.
A Potential Way To Bring Lapsed Fans Back Into The Mix
Add in the focus on nostalgia in selling the game, comparing it to the N64 era of professional wrestling games – and this could be one of, if not the best business choice AEW has made in 2022. There’s a market for people wanting a fresh taste in wrestling games, with a lot of fan burnout coming with the WWE 2K series, and this could end up being just that.
People will undoubtedly try it out on a whim, and that could easily lead to them deciding to check out Dynamite or Rampage, or see one of the more expanded live events promised in 2023. A snowball effect is not hard to see here, but ultimately it hinges on the game being good. If it’s a great game, this is going to be huge for AEW – but if it’s bad, this will just blow up in their faces.
