Just over a year ago, we’d see the return of CM Punk to professional wrestling, following his 2013 retirement. He signed a contract with All Elite Wrestling, and got to work having matches with the likes of Darby Allin, MJF, and more. Things would sour in mid-2022, and explode at All Out 2022 – when Punk would effectively burn the bridge with AEW with a fiery media scrum where he called out the likes of Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks for their roles as EVP’s. Add in a torn tricep putting him out of action after just coming back from a broken foot, and CM Punk’s future in the ring has been put into question.
No Lawsuits Have Popped Up Following All Out Brawl Yet
A recent conversation on Wrestling Observer Radio between Nick Hausman of Wrestle Inc & Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer would reveal some information on the status of Punk in professional wrestling going forward. Meltzer would provide an update on potential lawsuits following the locker room brawl that followed the media scrum at All Out, saying the following.
“As far as I know, there aren’t, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be. I suppose it’s possible on the other side, too, but I have not heard that. The key to this is so much of the stuff has not come out, and I don’t know that it ever will.”
There’s been rumours of potential lawsuits from both Punk & AEW, but nothing solid has came to light – and it seems more likely the truth came in CM Punk buying out his AEW contract to get away from the company instead. Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks are set to return to TV soon, with this potentially saved for Full Gear later this month, with them kept off TV with suspensions following the brawl.
CM Punk Has A Path Into Hollywood, Stepping Away From Professional Wrestling Once Again?
Nick Hausman would report that he’s heard from CM Punk’s camp that this is likely the end of his career as a professional wrestler, and would have the following to say.
“Cash does not seem to be an issue for this guy. He’s got in-roads in Hollywood going on right now. Stephen Amell certainly shining him up with what they’re trying to do over on Starz’s Heels right now. I have a lot of people that have known Punk that say to me, ‘This guy’s never gonna wrestle again.’”
