Over the past year, we’ve really seen GUNTHER become comfortable on the WWE main roster. The former NXT UK Champion moved to the United States earlier this year, and has since found his footing with the backing of Imperium on Smackdown Live. However, his main roster prospects looked bleak in 2019 – when he was taken out of the elimination match at Survivor Series in three minutes.
GUNTHER Accepted The Choice And Made The Best Of It
While speaking with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston for Ten Count, GUNTHER would describe how that moment simply increased both his fan support, and his determination to succeed in WWE. GUNTHER was quoted saying the following about the match.
“That’s just how things go sometimes. There is not much you can say. There was a decision that was made, and you go along with it and try to make the best of it. But I don’t know, I don’t think it was negative. Just hearing the crowd reactions when I came in the match, and then getting eliminated early, I think that did something to me.
I think when you have a fanbase or something like that, and something, especially in wrestling, something happens to you that they think is not right for you, they’re gonna be very vocal about it, and they’re gonna be very loud about it. So I think it added to my popularity in that sense, I would say, because a lot of people spoke about it. So I think no harm was done, and everybody needs to be able to take a humbling experience here and there, so I’m totally fine with it.”
Set To Defend The WWE Intercontinental Championship At Survivor Series In Two Weeks Time
Right now, GUNTHER is set to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series. WWE has set up the World Cup tournament, an eight man single elimination tournament set to begin tomorrow evening on Smackdown Live. This will mark his sixth defence of the belt and second on PPV, having won it on June 10th from Ricochet on an episode of Smackdown Live.
