Ahead of their fourth fight, UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo revealed at a press conference that he has “infiltrated” his opponent Brandon Moreno’s team. The pair are set to clash at UFC 283, which will take place in Figueiredo’s native Brazil. The simple fact of geography is precisely how Figueiredo plans on figuring out Moreno’s game plan.
““Like I said, this is Brazil, and all he does here will get to me. I know this man’s game, he has nothing different. It’s the same game. When you submitted me, it was luck. That won’t happen again, I’m training for you, crybaby.”
How Figueiredo “Infiltrated” Brandon Moreno’s Team
At the same press conference, Moreno discussed Figueiredo having “a lot of information” on him. Moreno also pointed out that he felt he did enough in their last bout to win, but that Figueiredo left the Octagon with the decision victory as well as the flyweight belt.
“Right now he has a lot of videos on me, he has a lot of information. I’m still thinking I won the fight, but I definitely made mistakes in my last combat against Deiveson. Right now we have a specific plan, and that’s it. I don’t wanna say nothing extra because he has videos and everything, he’s following me, so that’s it. That’s my gameplay, surprise him.”
Figueiredo fired back:
“I’ve infiltrated someone in your team!” Figueiredo and Moreno’s fourth fight will allow the pair to settle the score. During their first fight, Figueiredo was ahead on the judges’ scorecards until he delivered an illegal groin strike to Moreno, and was deducted a point. That turned their first bout into a majority draw.
The rematch saw Moreno dispatch Figueiredo via rear naked choke six months later to claim the UFC flyweight title. In doing so, he became the UFC’s first Mexican champion. In his first title defense, Moreno lost the belt to Figueiredo via unanimous decision. As it stands, the pair have a 1-1-1 record going into their fourth fight, a rare occurrence in the world of MMA which deals so frequently in absolutes.
Deiveson Figueiredo has not defended the title since recapturing it from Moreno at UFC 270. Moreno, on the other hand, earned his rematch with a third-round TKO victory over Kai Kara-France, dropping Kara-France with a brutal liver shot.
Do you think Brandon Moreno will have something new to show off when he faces Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 283, or will Figueiredo’s spy help the Brazilian retain his title on home soil? Let us know in the comments.
