Kayla Harrison, PFL’s biggest star, is unhappy with her current compensation. She’ll headline the promotion’s first ever pay-per-view, but Harrison is “annoyed” not to be seeing any extra money from potential sales, and she’s none too pleased at the timing of the announcement. Harrison discussed her issue in a recent episode of The MMA Hour.
“I’m annoyed slightly. No [cut of the pay-per-view]. Obviously, I’m not a member of the board or a decision maker, but what does Cyborg keep saying? ‘Let’s see if she sells pay-per-view.’ So from a personal standpoint, it’s a little frustrating to me that they make the first pay-per-view fight a fight that I’ve already had twice, and they only give it like a month to sell. I would have liked to promote it better.”
Kayla Harrison “Annoyed” With PFL Pay
Regardless, Harrison, who is set to face Larissa Pacheco for the third time, plans to put on a show. “I have a job to do on Friday night. My job is to get in the cage and fight. To go out and cement my legacy, to continue on that path, and I hope people will tune in to see greatness in the making. I’m not there yet. We all know I’m not there yet, but I promise you that I’m going to get there, and when I do, you’re going to want to have witnessed all of it.
Because I’m a bad motherf*****, and you can’t stop me. You want to watch.” If Harrison remains unhappy with her compensation from PFL, it’s only a matter of time before she can move on. Harrison has a total of three fights remaining on her contract, including this weekend’s scheduled bout. After that, she’ll be a free agent. She tried free agency once before, with a generous offer from Bellator MMA coming in, but ultimately PFL matched those terms and kept her around.
After that, Harrison may finally end up facing her longtime rival Cris Cyborg. “Well, I have two more fights left on my contract with the PFL. After Friday, I’ll have two more fights.
I think [the contract] ends sometime in 2023. It ends immediately. So there’s no matching, no restriction, no 30 days, nothing.
There are multiple paths to greatness, but I’m not there yet,” Harrison said. “I haven’t been given the opportunity yet. I haven’t proven it but I believe I’m ready. I believe I can beat [everybody].”
