Since taking over as head of WWE Creative, Triple H has done a good to great job in the eyes on many fans and critics, and everyone agrees the shows are improving.
Under Vince McMahon, the shows were lacking direction and were often hard to watch, and that’s hard to say after watching the WWE for the better part of the last forty years.
Vince Russo Blasts Triple H’s Booking of Austin Theory
But no one’s perfect, and while the WWE is moving in Triple H’s preferred creative direction, not everyone will agree with it.
One of the current criticism of Triple H came from Vince Russo on Sportskeeda’s Legion of Raw podcast.
Under Vince, Theory came to the main roster as Vince’s protégé and he was booked to win several matches through various underhanded means and was even added at the last second to the Money in the Bank match, which gave him a good edge over the rest and he won.
Rules were constantly bent in Theory’s favor to make him a hated heel by getting the easy road.
Since Triple H took over, Theory’s success has evaporated since he doesn’t have Vince pulling strings for him, and that’s where the contention comes in.
No more handouts
Russo blasted Triple H with the logic that Theory regularly losing has hurt the fan’s perception of him being the MITB winner.
“You’re beating the guy continuously that has the Money in the Bank case. Chris, what is the point of having the case, then? That is supposed to be a threat that when that guy cashes in the case, it’s game over. But when you’re losing every single week, I don’t get it, Chris; I don’t understand it.”
He went on to say that Theory’s stock is in the basement now as Theory’s nothing now.
“Well, I think it’s safe to say, and Chris, if you disagree with me, please disagree with me; Theory means nothing right now. I mean, absolutely zero. Nothing!”
Where it’s possibly going
Theory’s current storyline, in my opinion, is one where he’s floundering without the special support and needs to rebuild himself and work his way back up.
In short, the silver spoon was taken away and Theory has to stand on his own two feet.
It makes sense since he was Mr. McMahon’s pet project, and now he has to find his own way. It’s a great story and can really work well if they do it right.
There have been reports that a storyline idea that’s been pitched is for Theory to be the first person to hold the MITB contract for the full year and be in a race against the clock to cash it in on the last day.
That would be the perfect ending to Theory rebuilding himself and the indecision on what he’s going to do with the MITB could be part of why he’s having a losing streak.
Theory also had an awesome match against Seth Rollins for the United States Championship, and that’ll go a long way in helping him turn the corner.
The old sports mantra of it being a marathon and not a sprint seems to fit this pretty well. What do you think? Is Triple H wrong in how he’s booking Theory or is there a bigger plan in the works?
