A man who bore a resemblance to Conor McGregor was sentenced to a year in prison for crashing into a police car, violating the lockdown regulations, and being found in possession of cocaine and an imitation firearm.

In March 2020, Mark Nye, who was 36-years-old, was filmed colliding into a law enforcement vehicle that was headed in the opposite direction after he was pulled over on the side of the road in Surrey.

Upon further inspection of the incident, he was arrested for not following coronavirus regulations. He was convicted after admitting to dangerous driving that led to serious injury, having a fake firearm in a public area, and having Class A drugs.

Nye was also given a disqualification from operating a vehicle for three-and-a-half years upon his release from imprisonment.

Phil Haffenden, who happens to be the detective in charge, had this to say: “Nye had no consideration for the safety of the officers involved or members of the public that could have been put in danger by his dangerous driving.

“I am pleased that Nye will now spend time in prison for his crime.” The response on social media was one of ridicule. A certain subset of people began to make a mockery of the real Connor McGregor.

This was on the grounds that they felt the defendant looked in better shape than the real man himself. Meanwhile, others begged to differ by claiming that the convicted man looked nothing like the UFC star.

And in the process, the comments were very brutal indeed. One person wrote: “36 ! He has led a rough life looks more like 66,” while another person stated: “He looks better than Conor McGregor.”

Whether there is a resemblance to McGregor or not, it does nothing to take away from the fact that the man has been held accountable. And that is the most important thing to remember moving forward.

So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
