UFC lightweight Drew Dober does not expect to find himself facing Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett anytime soon. Dober argued at the UFC Vegas 66 media day that the organization is keeping the pair of them apart in case Dober exposes the UFC’s rising star.
“No, the UFC will not let me fight him. Let’s be honest, we watched his last fight and we know what I’m capable of. That would be a fun one. I just want to fight in London at that O2 Arena, so if Paddy says ‘yes’ I’m all for it, but we all know that we’ve got Dana, the UFC, and all those guys, they won’t let that happen.”

Dober also weighed in on Paddy Pimblett’s recent controversial decision win over Jared Gordon at UFC 282. Pimblett earned a narrow unanimous decision victory, but many fans and commentators believed that his opponent actually won the fight. Drew Dober pointed out that “star power” can affect judges’ decision-making.
“My opinion on the entire matter is there’s something to star power in the judges’ decisions. We’re watching octagon control and effectiveness and all this other stuff, star power is something you’ve got to also get over, so when you’re fighting a guy as big as Paddy you’ve got to do more than just five more punches.”
As for his own trajectory, Drew Dober is happy to keep on fighting regularly and building his way to the top of the division. Dober said that he is happy to fight three times a year for as long as his body will let him.
“My goal is always three fights in a year, preferably more, but I just want to keep going. I kind of just dismissed this idea, requesting ranked opponents and this and that. I just want exciting fights. I’m not trying to sneak my way up the ladder. I’m trying to make loud noises and so I would never turn down an exciting unranked fight for a boring ranked fight.”
Dober did exactly that today with a brutal knockout win over Bobby Green. Dober demolished Green in the second round of their fight today, and will be hoping to extend his knockout streak early in the new year. Whether that will include a fight against Paddy Pimblett, a fellow early finisher, will remain to be seen.
