Drew Dober Wants To Kill The UFC’s Next Hype Train

UFC lightweight Drew Dober knows that he’s not going to get a major name for his next fight. That, however, only serves to motivate the surging 155-pounder further, as he plans on derailing a UFC hype train, a habit that he claims is something of a specialty. A major name on Dober’s list is a fellow lightweight that he called a “cash cow” in a recent episode of The MMA Hour: Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett.

“He’s a cash cow. He’s somebody that they’re going to want to try to keep in the UFC for as long as possible and I’m notorious for killing hypes.”

Dober also evaluated Pimblett’s fighting ability, including a widely-held opinion that Pimblett holds his chin up far too often and far too long.

“He leaves his chin up there way too long. His jiu-jitsu’s a problem for sure. Just kind of like Bobby Green, he’s got a style that’s hard to find, so he might win this first round but I will find his chin.”

Another major name for Dober is Jalin Turner, who he called out straight after demolishing Bobby Green. “If you ask me honestly, who do I want to fight?

It’s Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev. The best in the world. Now, who can I get? Who can I get is a far different answer, so I try to be as realistic as possible. Truly, I’m willing to trade with anyone in the lightweight division, and I want to know who the people want to see me fight.”

Turner responded on Twitter, but Drew Dober remains unconvinced of internet tough-guy-isms. “I saw it, but everyone’s down on Twitter. Everyone wants to be a fighter until it’s time to be a fighter. Who knows?

I think Jalin Turner was a good callout, but I’m trying to fight Michael Chandler, Fiziev, I’m here for the bangers. I’m here for the most entertaining fights.”

Chief among Turner’s advantages in the 155-pound division is his towering 6-foot-3 stature. “I think that 6-foot-3 reach would be an issue, but I’ve got a teammate in Neil Magny who’s equally if not longer. I would definitely love a kickboxing fight with him and I think he’s going to be clinching me up and trying to take me down and grapple, in which I’ll just showcase my brown belt in jiu-jitsu.”

Do you think Drew Dober will be the one to kill the Paddy Pimblett hype train? Let us know in the comments.
