One of the biggest trends when it comes to pro wrestling are podcasts as fans love to hear what their favorites have to say about the current product as well as their stories about their time in the business.
Legendary wrestler, manager, and booker Dutch Mantel has shared his stories and opinions on the current companies and their product.
On a recent episode of Smacktalk, he discussed the WWE’s current women’s division with particular attention given to Tegan Nox.
When it came to discussing the tag team match between Liv Morgan and Tegan Nox vs. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler, he didn’t hold back when he said he’d fire the entire women’s division except for Rousey and Baszler.
“She is not ready. I don’t know long she has been in developmental; I don’t know what she was doing down there. She is unsure of herself. Now, that could be, I guess, ring rust, but she wasn’t moving smoothly. Kind of like she was hesitating on some of the stuff she did. I saw her arm drags, pathetic! Not very good! That’s what they’re sending them to Orlando for. If you can’t learn to give a graceful arm drag, something’s wrong with the other person working with you. So, it does look forced. I would fire everybody right now in the girls’ division except Ronda and Baszler. I’d fire everybody, then five minutes later, I’d hired them all back just to show them I could do it.”
Not yet ready
It may be harsh criticism on Mantel’s part, but there have been reports that some of the rehires Triple H brought back haven’t lived up to his expectations, and there’s a chance Nox is one of them.
No names have been released, so who those reports indicate is anyone’s guess.
Of course, part of that could simply be ring rust. On December 16’s WWE Smackdown, we saw a couple of botches that could be attributed to ring rust or the talent not working together to get their timing down, or simply a physical issue that popped up.
We’ll know more about how many are doing in Triple H’s estimation depending on if they stay with the main brand or move back to NXT.
Nox is a fan favorite and it wouldn’t surprise us if she just needs some more in ring time, but time will tell.
