It has been confirmed that ‘General Hospital’ star Sonya Eddy has died at the age of 55. A spokesperson confirmed to ET, “General Hospital is sad to confirm the passing of actress Sonya Eddy, who embodied her character… the tough but compassionate, head nurse, Epiphany Johnson – and immediately became a fan favorite and beloved member of our GH family when she joined the show in 2016.”

General Hospital’s executive producer Frank Valentini also shared in a statement to ET, “I am heartbroken and the loss of the incredible Sonya Eddy. I truly loved her not only as actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurses’ station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set. On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and fans.

She will be missed.” It was Eddy’s best friend Octavia Spencer who broke the news on Tuesday. She took to Instagram to pay tribute to the star and posted a headshot of her. He wrote, “My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel.
Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!” Followers, fans, and friends also shared their tributes for Eddy in the comments section. Nina Parker, Reda, and Holly Robinson Peete also added theirs.
A fan said that General Hospital “will not be the same without her” and wrote further that Eddy “will be deeply missed.” Another fan added, “OMG! So sad. Love Sonya and enjoyed every minute she was on screen. Very sorry for your loss. May she rest in eternal peace.” The cause of her death is still unknown, but ET has asked for more updates from Eddy’s rep.
Sonya Eddy joined General Hospital in 2006 and fans fell in love with her role as Nurse Epiphany Johnson in the series. Her last episode as the nurse was aired in November. Eddy has also been featured in some TV series and films such as Inspector Gadget, Barbershop, Daddy Daycare, Seven Pounds, The Perfect Game, and Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday. She recently appeared in Frank and Penelope, V/H/S/99, and Satanic Hispanic films.
