Right now, it’s easy to view WWE as a walled off section of professional wrestling. Their wrestlers generally don’t get to step outside the WWE system, making any appearance of their roster at a smaller show a real shock. However, that was how things were run under the leadership of Vince McMahon. Kevin Owens thinks that things have changed with Triple H now taking charge.
Kevin Owens Feels It’s More Possible To Show Up At Indy Shows Now
During an appearance on the WWE After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves, Kevin Owens had a chance to open up about how he feels there’s a better chance of him popping up at an independent wrestling show in the future. Owens was quoted saying the following.
“I’m very deeply rooted on the independent scene, that’s where I came up and I still have so many friends there and there are a few Independent companies that I still hold very near and dear to my heart that I’d love to one day show back up on, just for fun, whether it’s a promo or maybe a match. That stuff, over the years, I’ve always thought of, ‘it’d be really cool if I got to do that one day: Now, it feels like more of a possibility than ever. It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but it feels like it could, and that’s very exciting for everybody involved, the fans and the wrestlers.”
We already have a sign of Triple H being more keen on working with outside companies, with Shinsuke Nakamura appearing for Pro Wrestling NOAH to wrestle The Great Muta on January 1st, 2023. With Triple H wanting to expand the NXT brand across the world, we might see more situations where WWE contracted talent travel the world to help plant seeds of expansion, and try to convince talent to join WWE instead of their main competition in AEW.
AEW has begun to slow down on having some of their bigger names show up for matches on indy shows, though Jon Moxley made a non-wrestling appearance for Pro Wrestling Revolver last night.
