On this week’s episode of Sister Wives, Kody Brown and Janelle Brown got into a dispute as the family gathered to discuss holiday plans. To see her children in North Carolina, Janelle informed Kody that she would not spend Thanksgiving with the family.
She said her children had received a vacation home in Arizona for Christmas, where they intended to spend the season. Kody was unaware of this, but Janelle clarified that the two sons, Gabriel and Garrison, didn’t feel comfortable spending Christmas with Kody and Robyn.

Janelle recalled that Kody had essentially told them they couldn’t attend Christmas unless they made a huge apology, to which they responded, “Well, no, we’re not going to do that.” Because of Kody’s severe regulations that he sought to impose on the family amid the coronavirus outbreak, Gabe and Garrison had problems with him. Due to the boys’ disregard for Kody’s instructions and the COVID risk factor, Kody avoided the lads.
The main cause of the problems between Kody, Gabriel, and Garrison, according to Kody, is a lack of cooperation with or adherence to the COVID guidelines. “Janelle wasn’t supporting me; therefore, they weren’t supporting me.” Kody was outraged that Janelle and the children were criticizing him behind his back when she revealed that Gabriel and Garrison weren’t the only kids who were angry with how he handled the COVID crisis.
Being forced to choose between spending Christmas with Kody or the kids, Janelle felt trapped. On the other hand, Robyn Brown yearned for Kody and the boys to resolve their differences so that they could all be together. “I sometimes think Janelle has pitted me against the boys or never supported me with the boys,” Kody insisted.
“I’m having the hardest time feeling like she’s not betraying me. I’m not saying they have to apologize to me. I’ve corrected that many times already. But it’s almost like that’s what she told them [I said] to put the heat on me for what’s going on.”
Kody asked Robyn and Meri Brown to comment on the situation since he couldn’t put his finger on what was bothering him so much and wanted to know whether they shared his concerns. Meri acknowledged to Janelle that she believed Kody had made it clear at a prior meeting that he didn’t require the boys to apologize to him, but Janelle was still of the opinion that Kody was delaying seeing Gabe and Garrison in favor of waiting for an apology.
Kody was quite upset by the misunderstanding since Janelle had informed the boys of his original statement on the need for an apology but had not informed them of his subsequent clarification. Janelle claimed that she wanted Kody and the boys to resolve their differences, but Kody made it apparent that he believed SHE was equally to blame for the conflict. “Since you never applied the COVID regulations, they also didn’t,” Kody remarked.
“You belittled the stuff I was doing.” Kody and Janelle, and Christine Brown had numerous disagreements about this. Janelle maintained her defense of having adhered to all CDC recommendations; however, she was not as adamant as Kody. Kody, who had only recently recovered from severe COVID, became enraged and began yelling at Janelle. “I can’t believe I have done all this to save you.
To save my kids!” he exclaimed. “I was trying to protect them, and I’m getting criticism from YOU and my boys. The worst criticism. Zero respect. I’ve gone 18 months persecuted by my family for trying to protect them. My heart is broken.”
Janelle stood up to leave the conversation at that point. She said, “I don’t have to stand here and defend myself. “This is the same old argument. I don’t need to be beaten into submission. I’m just not. I’m not going to stand here and be yelled at. I don’t deserve it.” Kody tried to get a crying Janelle to stay, but she said she didn’t want to be yelled at. Eventually, Robyn persuaded everyone to proceed with the conversation. “I apologize,” Kody admitted. “But every time we start talking about this stuff, I’m on the verge of losing it.
I know the weight of it now more than I ever did.” Janelle informed Kody after the conversation that she no longer wished to be between him and the children. She informed him that she could not act as a mediator and that they would have to resolve their differences with a counselor. “I’m here in a dark place with plural marriage, questioning whether it’s a good idea or works,” Kody concluded.
“Maybe we did something wrong along the line. I don’t want to blame plural marriage, but it hasn’t worked well for us.” Janelle added, “We’ve never had divides this deep. Christine has left, a very big departure from what our family has looked like for many years. I think it’s the ultimate test for our family. Can we hold it together?”
