Paddy the Baddy Declares Himself “The People’s Main Event”

Surging UFC lightweight Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett is not surprised to see himself second from top billing at UFC 282. In only his fourth UFC appearance, just over a year after his promotional debut, Pimblett will effectively be co-main event on a UFC pay-per-view. The Liverpool native told UFC Europe that the bump was to be expected, since he’s “the people’s main event” anyway.

“I was the people’s main event anyway. But obviously being co-main event is a privilege, so can’t wait to put on a show for everyone. I know a lot of people are there only to watch me. I’m the main attraction. It’s that simple. Even when I was just a featured bout. Now I’m the co-main, I am the main attraction.

“I feel sorry for half of the other people on the card because all the attention’s gonna be on me. What can I say?” In Jared Gordon, “The Baddy” is facing his toughest opponent yet. Gordon is a veteran of the Octagon, with just over five years in the promotion. Paddy Pimblett stated that, while he respects his opponent, the result won’t be any different from his previous fights.

“It’s gonna be more spectacular than the last. I always try and make it better, better than the last one. Vargas was decent. Leavitt was decent. But I’m gonna make a statement this time. People are still calling me a hype train. Still saying I’m this. Still saying I’m that. People won’t be saying that after this one when I finish Jared Gordon in the first round.”

Pimblett went on to claim on UFC Countdown that he is expecting yet another trademark early finish. “I really like Jared Gordon, I respect him. His story is amazing, he’s a big advocate for mental health himself and for helping people get through addiction and get their life back on track. That is exactly what he has done.

He has gone from being an addict to fighting in the UFC. Just look at Jared, he’s a brilliant example. He just isn’t on my level and I’m going to finish Jared Gordon. He’s getting finished in the first round and everyone will finally realize who the f**k the boy is.”

Will Jared Gordon be the one to derail the Paddy Pimblett hype train, or will “The Baddy” prove the doubters wrong once more? Let us know your prediction in the comments.
