We’re quickly approaching the exit for the Road to WrestleMania as 2022 comes to a close, with WWE soon ready to focus on the Royal Rumble. After a weak event in early 2022 left fans less than impressed, WWE has big plans for the 2023 event – with three big time singles matches already planned for the event.
Three Major Singles Matches Currently Set For Royal Rumble
The first of the big planned matches will be the blow off to the Edge vs. Judgement Day feud. Currently this is expected to finish with a Hell in a Cell match at Royal Rumble, allowing for Edge to be able to focus on just Finn Balor in a big match. Since the change to PG, Edge has been involved in some of the best Hell in a Cell matches, including his 2021 match with Seth Rollins in Saudi Arabia.
Roman Reigns is expected to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championships against Kevin Owens at the event as well. They clashed at Survivor Series: WarGames, and the current storyline with Sami Zayn being added into the Bloodline faction allows WWE to move back into this feud. They met at Royal Rumble 2021 in a Last Man Standing match, with Reigns able to retain.
Finally, Ronda Rousey is set to defend the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Raquel Rodriguez at the event. WWE is pushing Rodriguez as the top female babyface on Smackdown Live right now, with her set to defeat former Smackdown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan on an upcoming taped episode of Smackdown. Rousey & Rodriguez previously met following WrestleMania Backlash, with the match receiving an okay reception.
Bookend The PPV With Two Royal Rumble Matches And You Have A Complete Show
Add in the two Royal Rumble matches, and that is likely going to be the complete card for the upcoming PPV. WWE has been keeping PPV cards around five matches, and with two Royal Rumble matches and a Hell in a Cell match set – there’s not going to be much room to add much else to the event.
It’s possible we get a sixth match with The Usos defending the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships at the event – but anything beyond that could be viewed as too much. What do you think of the planned matches for Royal Rumble 2023? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
