Last night, we would see FTR lose the AAA Tag Team Championships to Dragon Lee & Dralistico. However, this would not be the biggest story to come out of AAA Gira Aniversario XXX Noche De Campeones. That would come with Dragon Lee announcing his next move in professional wrestling. After working for Ring of Honor, All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling in recent years – Dragon Lee is finally making his way to WWE.

Triple H Confirms Dragon Lee Is NXT Bound

This news would be confirmed by Triple H on Twitter, who had the following to say about signing Dragon Lee.

An unbelievable athlete who has collected accolades and held championships across the globe… and he’s just getting started.

The next chapter of Dragon Lee’s career begins with WWE NXT!

This marks the one of the first big signings for the NXT brand since the transition to NXT 2.0, which mainly seen WWE focus on recruiting promising athletes for their developmental brand. Roxanne Perez is another bigger name to join the roster, being a former ROH Women’s World Champion.

A World Travelled Champion In The Prime Of His Career

The record of Lee speaks for itself. He’s a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, with a series of excellent matches against Hiromu Takahashi really getting him noticed by fans outside of Mexico. During his time in Ring of Honor, he would win the ROH World Television Championship twice, for a combined 600 days, and also held the ROH World Tag Team Championships twice for 93 days.

In CMLL he spent 1491 days as CMLL World Lightweight Champion, and the CMLL World Welterweight Championship for 264 days. Every major stage Lee has spent time on, he’s made an impact – with the exception being AEW, where he only wrestled a single trios match. We can expect him to make his debut in WWE NXT very soon, potentially as soon as New Year’s Evil or Vengeance Day – the next two big NXT specials.

With Santos Escobar having been called up from NXT, WWE was looking for that next big hispanic star for the brand. Dragon Lee is the perfect fit for that role, being genuinely one of the best in the world of lucha libre – and an almost certain champion in WWE.

Are you excited to see what Dragon Lee can accomplish in WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
