There’s no doubt that Bully Ray is a fan of Mercedes Mone, formerly Sasha Banks, as he gave her high praise on a recent episode of Busted Open Radio.
Bully talked about being perceived as not being a fan of her in the WWE and how her leaving will hurt Charlotte Flair.
Bully Ray Believes Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks) is Better than Becky Lynch and Second Only to Charlotte Flair
“And this is what makes me laugh whenever I hear people on social media say, ‘Oh, Bully doesn’t like Sasha.’ Are you people out of your freaking mind? In my eyes, Sasha was only behind Charlotte, and considerably better than Becky in the ring!
“Losing Sasha hurts Charlotte a little bit because she doesn’t have that real rival. Can Becky be that real rival? Yeah, there’ll always be that animosity for a personal feud with Becky, but as far as move for move, as far as the fluidity, the psychology, the flow, the athleticism, Sasha is better than Becky. I’m not saying that Becky is [bad]. Becky is very, very good, but Sasha’s better.”
Leaps and bounds
There’s no denying that Mercedes is one of the best talents in wrestling and in the WWE she was never given the chance to reach a higher level despite winning the women’s championships six times.
Only once did she survive a title defense, and that made her look weaker than she should’ve when others had several successful defenses.
She was part of the Four Horsewomen alongside Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Bayley as they revolutionized the women’s division in the WWE.
Prior to them, the women were viewed as Divas and rarely seen as legitimate in ring competitors due to bra and panties matches and other gimmicks.
While Trish Stratus, Lita, and others proved they should be taken seriously in the ring, it took a while for the WWE to move beyond the Diva mentality.
The fact Vince McMahon approached the Fabulous Moolah to do the Original Screwjob on Wendi Richter in the 1980s because she wanted equal pay shows the company’s handling of the women’s division has been flawed at times.
Mercedes helped change that and now the WWE women’s division is one of the best in the world and is viewed differently by the main stream and world as a whole.
When it comes to Flair, she is the best in the company by a wide margin with Lynch the closest to her thanks to her brashness and in ring toughness, but Mercedes has that and more, and this is a curious debate.
Especially since Bayley was left out of the conversation and she was one of the heroes during the Thunderdome Era.
