Ever since Roman Reigns started calling himself “The Tribal Chief” in WWE, fans have wanted to see one match. That is Roman Reigns vs. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Both men are part of the same family, and both have been the top stars in WWE over their careers. In the past few months, we’ve seen a variety of rumours and speculation that The Rock would be finally having this match at WrestleMania 39 – with the path starting at the Royal Rumble tonight.
The Rock Could Be Showing Up Tonight At Royal Rumble
The latest report as of today comes from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful – who published the following.
“There are several people who claim to have connections to the company that swear The Rock is showing up, but so far Fightful has been given no confirmation or indication that it’s happening yet.”
In addition to this, it’s been rumoured that the main event of tonight’s show will be the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between Reigns and Kevin Owens. This sets the stage perfectly for The Rock to either appear following the match, or even cost Reigns the title tonight – putting it on Owens leading into WrestleMania.
Cody Rhodes Is The Favourite To Win The Royal Rumble Match
Previously, it was expected that if this match was to happen – The Rock would enter and win the Royal Rumble match to get the title shot at WrestleMania against Reigns. However, as of the time of writing, he’s not expected to be in the match – with the returning Cody Rhodes being the favourite to walk away with the victory later tonight.
The Rock simply doesn’t need to win a match to get his WrestleMania match at this stage of his career, and it would have been a waste of the Royal Rumble – which can instead push someone like Rhodes to the main event level in WWE. If he shows up tonight, it will simply be an incredible moment – and finally set things in motion for potentially the biggest money match in the professional wrestling world today.
