Over the past few years, we’ve seen a partnership between WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, bringing WWE over to the country to run some major PPV events. Mainly held under the Crown Jewel branding, we’ve also seen Elimination Chamber & The Greatest Royal Rumble events from the deal. One name who was involved on the first two event was Kurt Angle, who didn’t like his booking but LOVED the money.
Kurt Angle Wanted Main Event Booking In Saudi Arabia
While speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, the retired WWE Hall of Famer would speak about his experiences working in Saudi Arabia in 2018. Angle loved it, but mainly because of how much money he made during the events.
“I loved it! And the main reason is money, money, money. When you go to these places they spend a lot. These were bought shows. Saudi Arabia… You’re talking 200 million dollars for two shows a year. That’s incredible.”
When it came to how he was used on the shows, Angle had a some complaints, having the following to say.
“What I will say is this. They didn’t put me in great spots as you know. I think I did I did a 2018’s Greatest Royal Rumble. I also did a seven-minute match with Dolph Ziggler WWE Crown Jewel 2018.
The match wasn’t good. Dolph was great, don’t get me wrong but me at this point in time I wasn’t so great. I had really started to lose a step at this particular time in my career. The match wasn’t where I wanted to be. I was hoping more for the main event status, but still, the money was still really good.”
Enjoyed Working With Daniel Bryan
One of the biggest things for fans to come from these shows and Angle’s involvement was finally getting to see him work with Daniel Bryan. They clashed during the Greatest Royal Rumble, which is something Angle looks back on fondly.
“We wanted to do something special. So Daniel actually came up with it and it was a great little spot. I enjoyed working with him. Man he’s so talented and he’s not just an incredible high flyer he’s a great technician too. Daniel Bryan could be one of the best overall workers in the business today.”
Should WWE have tried to run a singles match between Bryan & Angle before his retirement? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
