With an abundance of talented wrestlers on Smackdown, there is no doubt that the first full year under Triple H is going to be big. Here are three storylines that could not only mean big business for WWE in 2023, but carry a majority of the year for the company.
Bray Wyatt vs Karion Kross
This one could be fun! Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way, I know that both men are heels, but I think that if it is built up right, they can make it work.
Two of the darker acts on the roster going at it. Expect a lot of special effects and trickery going on.
I could also see this being the feud that ends up turning Kross into a babyface. There will no doubt be multiple wrestlers on Bray’s side and Karion’s character is known for being a loner and not working well with others.
If this is the direction they go, the numbers game could catch up to Kross so much that the fans naturally get behind him as a good guy. This storyline could be stretched out depending on how many matches you could get out of Karion Kross and Bray Wyatt’s band of goons.
Either way, WWE needs to find a way to keep Kross on television.
Roman Reigns vs GUNTHER
By the end of the year, Roman Reigns won’t be a heel anymore. While I hope that he doesn’t turn babyface anytime soon, I could see he moving to more of a tweener role.
I think that this will happen by the Bloodline somehow overturning Roman as their leader after he loses the WWE titles.
This is where GUNTHER will come in at. The writing might be on the wall for his Intercontinental title run. After that ends, I think that he will be pushed into the main event picture.
Even if GUNTHER doesn’t capture the WWE World Championship by the end of the year, I could see him crossing paths with a solo Roman Reigns and clashing with him multiple times this year.
If this storyline does happen, look for it to happen around the backend of the year because there are a lot of things that has to fall into place for this to go down.
Charlotte vs Shayna Baszler
Wait, were is Ronda? Who knows and who cares. While I won’t say that Charlotte and Ronda haven’t had good matches in the past, I will say that I don’t think that fans want to see many more of them.
Between Shayna and Ronda, Shayna is the better in ring performer by a mile. The difference is that Shayna had a lot of time in NXT where she could get better and work with the trainers down there on a daily basis.
I think that this storyline would probably start with Charlotte defeating Ronda again, possibly injuring her. Shayna would step up to get revenge on Charlotte because of it.
I am not sure who would eventually be the babyface in this situation, but I think that the matches that these two could have might be some of the best that we have seen in WWE in a very long time.
To add to this, while Shayna isn’t the best on the mic, she is pretty decent at worse. This could help add to the excitement of the storyline. Also, I could see a situation where Shayna gets a few goons from NXT to gang up on Charlotte.
