Actor, potential wrestling promotion owner, and former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr had questions about Lesnar vs. Lashley at Elimination Chamber and it begs an answer. Excessive roughness is something that rarely gets an onscreen suspension or termination in wrestling. As a matter of fact it often ends shows.
Former WWE Writer Freddie Prinze Jr Wants to Know Why Brock Lesnar Wasn’t Fired After Elimination Chamber
Following his DQ, Brock Lesnar went on to spam F5 Lashley. His disqualification came after he low-blowed Lashley. For doing his job, the referee was F5’d as well. On his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, Freddie Prinze Jr asked what everyone wanted to know: Why wasn’t Brock Lesnar fired?
Attacking referees have always resulted in at least a suspension. Hell, there was a referee strike angle during the Attitude Era built on the refs getting tired of being clapped by angry wrestlers.
Prinze’s point is all about consistency and continuity. See, in the very same feud not too long ago, an important angle was Lashley being fired for attacking a referee after being given a warning by Adam Pearce for the same offense. He said:
“By the way, storyline-wise, when Bobby Lashley put his hands on an official, he got fired by you, Adam Pearce. Remember on Monday Night RAW? He was like, ‘If you do it again, don’t make me do this.’ And the next week, he did it again and Adam Pearce goes, ‘What are you doing, Bobby? You’re fired!’ Bobby got fired, so what’s up? Why isn’t Brock getting fired?”
He raises a point and it was likely a storyline flub by creative but it was a notable one since the segment had TV time. Also, writers for TV, film, and literature should be held to continuity at least.
