During the 2023 Royal Rumble match, GUNTHER would be the MVP of the match. He started the match from the #1 position, and would last until the final two of the match – with Cody Rhodes able to take him out to win the match. For many fans, this was the best part of the Royal Rumble match – and fans want to see what they can do in a big time singles match.
Facing Cody Rhodes In Europe Sounds Perfect To GUNTHER
During the press tour following his Royal Rumble victory, Rhodes would mention he’s open to wrestling a proper match with GUNTHER later this year – hoping to have it in Europe. While appearing on After The Bell, GUNTHER would be asked if this idea appeals to him.
“Obviously, it does. When I knew that scenario would go down with me and Cody at the end, I knew he was out for a little bit, and since then I was able to work my way up and I had to introduce him to the new reality. That was my attitude going into it. Obviously, that was just a taste for everybody. Cody is one of those guys where, that’s a perfect match for me. Perfect opposites, if that makes sense. The match is right there whenever it needs to happen. If it happens in Europe, that would be fantastic.”
The Royal Rumble was the first time that GUNTHER & Rhodes would meet in the ring – and given how highly praised their segment at the end of the Royal Rumble was, WWE will be looking to promote this match again in the future. Right now, GUNTHER is set to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Madcap Moss, and doesn’t currently have a match planned for WrestleMania 39. Rhodes meanwhile will be in the main event, taking on the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, be that Sami Zayn or Roman Reigns.
