While WrestleMania has had a rich history, with the 39th event under the name happening this year – there are very few names who are as iconic to the brand as The Undertaker. For many years, his massive undefeated streak at the event was enough to draw in fans, before he was defeated by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30 – ending the streak at 21 wins. Undertaker would stick around until WrestleMania 36, where he defeated AJ Styles in the cinematic Boneyard match and would choose to retire – despite that being a major challenge.
The Undertaker Would Only Wrestle Again If He Knew He Could Meet The Expectations Of Fans
While speaking on Hawk vs. Wolf, Undertaker would be asked if he could consider wrestling another match in WWE. Undertaker would respond with the following.
“Absolutely. If I was physically able to do it, I would be out there right now. There is a huge amount of our fanbase that will grade you on a curve. They understand that you’re getting long in the tooth, you have a lot of miles on you, but they just want you out there. Then there is one part of that fanbase, ‘Ah man, he’s old, he shouldn’t be out there, he shouldn’t be doing this.’ Without any hesitation at all, if I felt like I could go and deliver, and deliver a performance that people expect when they see my name on the card, I would do it, but I know I can’t.”
Stepping Away From His Passion Was Very Difficult
When asked about his transition out of the ring – Undertaker would detail the challenges of stepping away from the ring.
“It’s been a horrible transition. I don’t know that I’ll ever find a passion like I did for actually being in the ring. I’m doing the one man show, and I’m enjoying that and it’s new to me, so I can pour myself into it again, but I don’t know if I’ll ever have that passion that wrestling gave to me. I watch the product and I’m like, ‘damn, I would have done that differently.’”
We recently saw Undertaker on Monday Night RAW for the shows 30th anniversary, where he shared the spotlight with old rival Bray Wyatt and self proclaimed megastar LA Knight.
