Last year, we touched on Gene Snitsky’s WWE career in one of our “Wrestling Salvage Yard” pieces. Now, in an interview on Monday Mailbag w/ Mike Chioda, he goes into his late WWE run repackaging.
Vince McMahon Reportedly Wanted Gene Skitsky on the WWE ECW Brand After Repackaging
According to Snitsky, in 2007 Vince McMahon came to him and complimented him on his work. He would then inform him of the move to WWE ECW. Now off the bat, something should’ve been up as by 2007, the allure of the ECW brand was done.
The second indication was the idea for his repackaging. Mind full disclosure: this is my favorite Snitsky since I could actually see him going somewhere with just decent creative. It wouldn’t even have to be great or a landmark achievement in booking.
Just apply the same monster heel energy creatively that was applied to late bloomers Mark Henry and Big Daddy V. As for the description, we all know bald, yellow-teethed Gene Snitsky. He explained that while he was getting wins and being used, he wasn’t going anywhere before being drafted back to RAW. He told Chioda:
“I’ve got all these guys I’m just mowing over and then—I don’t know, three, four, five months later or whatever it was—Stephanie stops me in the hall. ‘Hey, Gene, my dad just loves what you’re doing on ECW. We’re going to draft you back to Raw’ … I don’t understand it then, I don’t understand it now.”
The rest is history. He arrived on RAW, didn’t do much, and was out the door in December 2008.
