Earlier this year, news of a potential sale of WWE would start to circulate. A deal with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia looked possible, but that deal has not yet gone through. However – WWE is up for sale in 2023, with Vince McMahon back in the company with the end goal of selling the professional wrestling juggernaut. We even now know the price he wants for the company – and it’s not going to be cheap.
9 Billion Dollars Is The Asking Price For WWE
This information comes from Lucas Shaw of Bloomberg, reporting that Vince McMahon wants as much as 9 billion dollars for the sale of WWE. Right now, the current market value of WWE is around 6.5 billion dollars, meaning WWE wants more than what they’re valued at. We already know that there is interest from the Saudi Royal Family and from Endeavor (owners of UFC) in purchasing WWE, and that WWE wants to sell before the media rights for Smackdown & RAW are locked in later this year.
WWE CEO Nick Khan has reported that he hopes to have a sale completed within three months, saying the following in an interview with CNBC in early February when asked if he expects the sale to come together fast.
“Quick. I think it’s going to be a fast process. Maybe three months.”
Vince McMahon Is Down To Sell Even If He’s Not Included In The Company Going Forward
Khan would also confirmed Vince is looking to sell even if it means not being involved with the company anymore, saying the following.
“Vince has declared to the board, to me, and to other management that he is 100% open to a transaction where he is not included in the company moving forward. I really believe he’s looking for the best value for the shareholders. Keep in mind, he’s also a large shareholder. He’s 77 years old and I think he’s ready to take a look at the landscape.”
As always, this is a developing story – and anything can happen. We’ve even seen Shad & Tony Khan pitch in, saying they are open to purchasing WWE – despite running All Elite Wrestling. Do you think WWE will sell in 2023? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
