One of the fun thing about the internet are all the rumors floating around about wrestlers and the various companies.
It’s fun for fans to speculate, but it can also be maddening given it’s often hard to know who to trust and who not to. The various companies don’t help when they purposely change plans to keep fans guessing and it makes sources look like they don’t know what’s going on. If nothing else, it makes things interesting.
Cody was number three on the challenger’s list?
This is a funny one for us since pretty much everyone knew Cody Rhodes returning to the Royal Rumble meant he was going to win and challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, and most likely defeat him.
It’s been heavily reported that Cody was in the plans to face Reigns since he returned, and given how he was Vince McMahon’s new golden boy it made sense.
But there are some fun theories out there that has him as the third choice to face Reigns as WrestleMania.
It’s mixed in with the news about the Rock reportedly being too busy to get into ring shape as he was supposed to be the one Reigns faced in many fans’ eyes including ours.
At the time, the rumor was the Rock would face Reigns for one of his titles in one main event, and Steve Austin would face Brock Lesnar in the other main event.
But that changed when Austin reportedly turned down a big pay day to appear, but that’s when things get really good.
Next man up
There has been some speculation that Austin was supposed to replace the Rock, which would make him the second choice to face Reigns.
But when he refused and Cody was reportedly medically cleared to wrestle the day of the Rumble, things aligned to set up Reigns’ top challenger at the year’s top event.
It makes sense if the speculation and reports are true, which could mean Cody came back earlier than expected to give the WWE a main event challenger for Reigns as well as a possible future world champion.
The Rock and Austin could’ve been the fill ins in case Cody wouldn’t be healthy as well, and when the WWE learned Cody was coming back they changed plans.
There are so many possibilities and this is what makes speculation so much fun. All the what ifs and couldas make things fun and interesting.
