It appears that the XFL 3.0–the recently revived pro football league owned by Dwayne Johnson and company—isn’t doing the TV ratings to keep up with the hype. As a result, a few upcoming games will be moved to other networks in hopes of a better showing.
Dwayne Johnson’s XFL Games Shuffled to Other Networks After Sagging TV Ratings
According to SportsMediaWatch, the week three games picked up an average of 571,000 viewers. As a result, the upcoming games are being shuffled among broadcasting partners. Originally, the March 16 showdown between the Seattle Sea Dragons and Houston Roughnecks was scheduled to air on FX but has been moved over to ESPN.
The March 25 game pitting the Sea Dragons and Orlando Guardians is moving from ESPN to ABC. Finally, the Roughnecks will take on the D.C Defenders on March 27 has been moved from FX to ESPN2. It has been noted that XFL: Dwayne Johnson Edition hasn’t been doing that hot out of the gate compared to Vince McMahon’s versions of the league.
While the 2020 version also suffered the XFL declining viewership curse, it averaged 1.6 million in the same week of action. It should be noted that the league had different networks for these games although both versions share many of the same broadcasting partners. Also, while viewership declined, XFL 2.0: The Road Warrior was maintaining ratings in the low millions, something that 3.0 has seen since the first three games of week one.
