Over the years, WWE has given us a lot of dream matches with legends that we never thought would happen. Recently, Stone Cold Steve Austin spoke about potentially facing another WWE legend, John Cena, in a match.
Stone Cold Steve Austin Comments on if a Potential Match with John Cena Could Still Happen or Not
WWE Hall of Famer, Stone Cold Steve Austin spoke to Ryan Satin for his Out of Character podcast and this is what he had to say about potentially wrestling John Cena in the future.
“Working with him would have been a real highlight, and I’ve had a bunch of highlights. It would have been a real special thing. There is something about John. People are so invested in his matches. He’s a very special talent. It would have been great to have a match with him. Will it ever happen? No. I think very highly of John and I love him.” (h/t: 411Mania)
And when asked if he ever considered it himself, this is what he had to say:
“No, not really. Names have always been tossed around in conversation and stuff like that. I said I was never going to really wrestle again, unless, because you never say never, unless the stars aligned properly. They did to work with KO [Kevin Owens] in Dallas, so we did that. It wasn’t really put out, ‘it’s going to be a highly competitive match.’ You weren’t expecting us to go 30 minutes. I think we exceeded the expectations and it worked for that time and place. I’m good.”
Steve Austin’s Return to the Ring
At last year’s WrestleMania, not only did Stone Cold return to the ring after two decades out of way from wrestling, but along with Kevin Owens, stole the show on the first night.
While Kevin Owens played a large part in how that match went, Austin still looked close to the old Rattlesnake that we know and love. Austin was so happy with how that match turned out that he even floated the idea that he wouldn’t mind stepping into the ring again if they could find him the right opponent to wrestle.
As of right now, Stone Cold doesn’t have a match for WrestleMania, but that doesn’t mean that he can build something up for a major live event like SummerSlam or even one of WWE’s international shows.
