Do you know who doesn’t care for leg slaps in wrestling? No, not Jim Ross or Jim Cornette, we know they aren’t fans of the practice at all. WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has recently voiced his opinions on leg slapping and his solution to the practice.
WWE Hall of Famer and NXT Commentator Booker T Has a Hot Take and Extreme Solution for Leg Slapping
For those unfamiliar, leg slapping is something of a theatrical practice where the leg is slapped upon the execution of a kick or knee strike. The sound from the slap gives the strike an unnatural sound effect that fans have become used to since Tajiri was doing it regularly in the late 90s and early 00s.
Considering that many of the wrestlers doing leg slaps were wrestling fans during either the tape trade/DVD era or the file sharing/early streaming era, it’s not exactly surprising they would take to leg slapping. If they weren’t fans during those periods, they’ve noticed their contemporaries slapping their legs.
Booker T, known for utilizing kicks in his style recently told Give Me Sport that leg slapping irks him—as it does other veterans in the industry. He’s even gone as far as to say:
“I guess my pet peeve, you know, the thing that really bugs me more than anything…My hot take is everybody that does the leg slap should be fired.”
It’s understandable that he finds it annoying—hell, I feel it became overdone as well—but firing people over it? The five-time World champion might be exaggerating here but what do you think? Fire superstars for slapping their legs on strikes or simply tell them to knock it off and that it’s ridiculous? Or do you simply let them do it—even if it’s your company and you’re not with it?
