UFC lightweight Matt “The Steamrolla” Frevola has his sights set on the promotion’s biggest rising star. Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett recently declared Frevola his “easiest route to the top 15,” but Frevola took that remark personally.
He called “The Baddy” (4-0 UFC) out in spectacular fashion in his post-fight interview at UFC 288. “Listen up, Paddy Pimblett, you absolutely suck.
This UFC Lightweight Wants Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett: “You Absolutely Suck!
Stop being a b**** and let’s fight. Alright? You’re on a four-fight win streak, I’m on a three-fight win streak. You’re in the UFC, you can’t pick and choose your fights. You’ve got to fight who the fans want to see you fight. Let’s go.”
Frevola then turned to the sold-out crowd. “Who wants to see Paddy Pimblett and The Steamrolla? Let’s go. Who wants it? Let’s go, bro. The time is now.”
Frevola later appeared on former UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping’s Believe You Me podcast to double down on the matter. “That’s the fight to make. I’ve been calling that dude out for a while now, but I think the stars aligned now. This is the time to do it, the time is now. I’m on a three-fight knockout win streak, he’s on a four-fight win streak.
I think it’s what the people want, and that’s what makes the UFC so great. You get the fights that the people wanna see.” Paddy Pimblett’s meteoric rise to UFC stardom came along with three spectacular stoppage wins in his first three fights. His latest Octagon outing, however, was a considerably more controversial affair.
Jared Gordon took Pimblett to a decision, which the Liverpudlian fighter narrowly won. The matter divided fans’ opinions, and Pimblett has since been sidelined by an ankle injury. The injury required surgery, from which Pimblett is still recovering.
Pimblett reacted to Frevola’s callout by reminding fans that he’s far from a comeback. “Bit of a weird time to call me out when I can’t even train like. But I’d fight frevola when I’m back. Probably the easiest route into the top 15.”
While Pimblett wants a rematch against Jared Gordon to rectify the supposed blemish on his record, the fighter from Liverpool will need to face higher opposition if he wants to scale the ranks and reach his declared goal of a UFC title.
Is Matt Frevola vs Paddy Pimblett the fight to make for the future of the lightweight division? Let us know in the comments.
