During the episode of Monday Night RAW following WrestleMania 39, everyone was shocked when Brock Lesnar was set to team with Cody Rhodes to battle The Bloodline.
Rhodes would quickly be betrayed, with Lesnar laying him out with an F5, and tonight – Rhodes is looking for revenge. There are very few men who can claim a victory over someone like Lesnar, making tonight a major test of Rhodes in WWE.
Cody Rhodes Heads To Suplex City
Rhodes would dive onto Lesnar before the bell even ran, before using the cowl of the announce table to start this match hot.
The steel steps would be bashed into the head of Lesnar three times, before Rhodes would grab a steel chair to attack the back of Lesnar. Lesnar would roll into the ring, and the bell would ring – meaning no more weapon attacks.
Disaster Kick would land on Lesnar, with a second taking Lesnar to his knees. CodyCutter would be caught, and Rhodes got a ticket to Suplex City.
Rhodes would roll to the apron to avoid another suplex, hitting a kick through the ropes. Climbing up top for a crossbody, Rhodes was caught and thrown with a Fallaway Slam.
Lesnar would hit his second German Suplex, and would follow with two more. Rhodes would even be launched with some vertical suplexes, adding to Lesnar’s suplex tally. Lesnar would suplex Rhodes for the seventh time, with a turnbuckle cover going flying – exposing some steel.
Outsmarting The Beast Incarnate
A belly to belly suplex would send Rhodes near the exposed corner – and Lesnar was led into the steel face first. CodyCutter would land, before the Disaster Kick would hit a bloody Lesnar. Punching the open wound, Rhodes was like a shark smelling blood in the water.
Another CodyCutter would follow, before Cross Rhodes landed. He’d move into a second, getting a two count. Lesnar was set up for a third, but was countered into the F5 – with Rhodes able to kick out.
Rhodes would be put into the Kimura Lock, and was able to shift into a pinfall – saving his arm and winning the match in clever fashion.
It’s rare to have defeated someone like Brock Lesnar – and now Rhodes can put himself in that category. Rhodes is now able to focus on finishing the story. The question is, is that winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, or dethroning Roman Reigns.
