There’s a good chance that fan favorite Carlito could be returning to the WWE soon, but in what role has yet to be announced.
While his return was teased a couple years ago, nothing much happened aside of a one time appearance in the ring.
Now it looks like he is returning following him reportedly working with the WWE in some capacity and being spotted in Orlando, Florida.
Carlito Returning to the WWE?
Fans have been clamoring for him to do more since he made a surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble 2021 and then at the recent Backlash.
At Backlash, he joined in the San Juan Street Fight to help Bad Bunny against Damian Priest by joining the LWO and Savio Vega in keeping Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio out of the match after they interfered.
Making a return?
The hope and speculation of Carlito’s return took on renewed life thanks to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer talked about how it may be telling that Carlito pulled out of an independent show next month. Add to that Devon Nicholson said Carlito told him he signed with the WWE to make a return, and it looks more likely we’ll see him back before too long.
“Well, the only thing that I know is he had an independent show on July 15 for Devon Nicholson in Canada, and he called him up to cancel and said that he has signed with WWE. So… perhaps he has signed with WWE, it wouldn’t surprise me. He got that big pop in Puerto Rico so maybe he’s back. We’ll have to wait and see. Maybe they have a storyline for him. That’s what Devon Nicholson said today.”
The WWE has shown more of a willingness to bring back former talent since Triple H has taken over the creative side of WWE, and while Carlito would be a nice addition, we’re curious what role the former United States and Intercontinental Champion would play.
There have been indications the WWE are focusing more on their young talent as they build for the future.
In this case, Carlito could be used as a producer and on air talent to help develop and put over young talent much as the Miz and others currently are.
But then we could be wrong and he’ll become a major player for championships and to further legitimize the LWO and make them not than the nostalgia effort they come across lately with dropping matches more times than not.
