With Roman Reigns surpassing the 1000 day mark as WWE’s Universal Champion, there’s been some news that the WWE have some interesting long term plans for him, and it includes Reigns becoming a superhero face.
The news came from Dave Melter at the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and he explained how it’s going to happen following several twists and turns in the Bloodline storyline, which will include Jey Uso choosing side, Reigns feuding with Sikoa, and then another match against Cody Rhodes.
Roman Reigns to Turn Into Superhero Face
“The angle remains the focal point of the company and has plenty of twists and turns left. There is who Jey Uso sides with that can be dragged out, the inevitable Sikoa and Reigns feud, more with Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes way down the line, and in the end, the Reigns babyface turn in the role as the all-time legend, which it seems these past few years is grooming him to be, and the special attraction superhero babyface for the big shows.”
Forcing a legend
There’s no denying that Reigns was Vince McMahon’s choice to be the next big superstar, and years of having him forced down our throat as a face more than proved that.
Then in 2020 when Reigns returned in his Tribal Chief persona, he took the wrestling world by storm in his first truly interesting character in the WWE.
Having Paul Heyman working with him was a huge part of that as Heyman’s guys tend to become huge stars.
But the run started to go stale and instead of reinventing Reigns by having him lose the titles and have to fight to get them back like Hollywood Hulk Hogan as the leader of the nWo in WCW, he had constant interference help from the Usos and Solo Sikoa.
Sami Zayn injected some much needed life into the Bloodline storyline, and now with the Usos turning on Reigns several months too late, it’s gotten interesting again.
Back to where he was
While the WWE’s creative direction as shown significant improvement under Triple H, it’ll be interesting to see if he can pull off Reigns going back to face when the fans seem to be tiring of him once again.
He could very easily be back to where he was prior to his current persona, and that wouldn’t be good for anyone.
Especially when they’re intent on keeping him champion with less defenses simply to set a record and “prove” he’s one of the greatest ever.
It’ll be interesting to see if the WWE can pull it off and make him a babyface superhero like Hulk Hogan and the Rock were.
What do you think about Reigns going back to being a face superhero down the road? Will it work or should he stay a heel? Let us know in the comments below.
