Celebrated and award-winning actor, Ian Buchanan, who played Duke Lavery on ‘General Hospital‘ and James Warwick on ‘Bold and the Beautiful’, is celebrating his 66th birthday today, June 16.

Ian Buchanan was born on16, 1957, in Hamilton, Scotland. His career in the entertainment world started when a photographer visited Spain and noticed his striking good looks.
This started Buchanan’s successful modelling career. In 1986, he stared his soap opera journey when he was cast opposite Finola Hughes (Anna) as Duke Lavery on ‘General Hospital’. His character, Duke and Anna shared a passionate tango, and that birthed a supercouple on the soap opera.
Buchanan eventually left the show, and after that, a character named Jonathan Paget (played by Greg Beecroft) came to town, and was revealed to the Duke. That, however, turned out to be a lie. Later on, the character died.
In 2012, ‘General Hospital’ fans learned that Duke was actually not dead. Fans were so happy and they were eager to see him back on their screen after being away for 23 years.
They gladly welcome him back into the show. Buchanan’s soap time did not end there. N between his GH stint, he played the role of James on ,The Bold and the Beautiful, (a role he won a Daytime Emmy for).
He also played Dr. Greg Madden on All My Children and Ian McCallister on Days of our Lives. In primetime, he also played exceptional roles on Twin Peaks, The Nanny, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, and Columbo. During his Columbo episode, he character was killed the character played by Deidre Hall (Marlena, Days of Our Lives).
Buchanan was recently heard as the narrator in the film A Mermaid For Christmas. The film also starred Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker, ‘Days of Our Lives’), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane, ‘Days of Our Lives’), and Kathleen Gati (Liesl Obrecht, ‘General Hospital’), amongst others.
