UFC middleweight Sean Strickland isn’t known for mincing words. Strickland, discussing fellow middleweight contender Marvin Vettori’s performance at UFC Vegas 75 with The Schmo, declared his affection for Vettori, while describing the Italian fighter as “stupid as “f***ing dirt.”
Strickland described Vettori colorfully as “on the short bus.” “I like Marvin some days. Some days I want to take him outside and shoot him.
UFC: Sean Strickland Believes In “Stupid As F***ing Dirt” Marvin Vettori
Marvin is volatile. The problem with Marvin, you guys: Marvin’s dumb. Marvin’s stupid. If I went to Marvin and he put me in a position of power and I said, ‘Marvin, I want you to stand on one leg, just for five days and I think you’re still gonna win the fight,’ he would stand there on one leg for five days and not move. I just think Marvin needs to find a better short bus driver.
You know what I’m saying? Right now, he’s on that short bus, and the people driving the short bus, they’re taking him in bad directions. I think if Marvin could find a better special needs helper, it will put him in the right direction.
Marvin is a tough guy, great cardio, a lot of heart, stupid as f****** dirt, but he has all the potential in the world. He just needs better voices.”
Strickland and Vettori now share losses to Jared Cannonier, both via decision. Sean Strickland, for his part, will return to action at UFC Vegas 76, taking on Abusupiyan Magomedov in the main event. Strickland appears to have absolutely no idea who he’s taking on, and is hardly a fan of doing his homework.
Despite this, Sean Strickland still believes that he is destined for UFC gold. Strickland has not yet managed to piece together a convincing enough winning streak to make a run as Israel Adesanya’s title, but he firmly believes that the fans want to see him crowned middleweight king.
“Is he a wrestler? I know he fought Dustin [Stoltzfus], he fought a can, and he knocked a guy out. Next thing you know, he’s fighting ranked guys. I don’t know who the f*** Abus is.
Here’s the thing, guys. I deserve the belt. You guys want the belt [on me].” Sean Strickland’s last run at the middleweight title was stopped in dramatic fashion by champ-to-be Alex Pereira, who knocked Strickland out in the first round of their clash last year. Sean Strickland is now hoping to put together a convincing winning streak to earn his way back to title contention.
