Former two-division UFC champion and current coach on this season of The Ultimate Fighter Conor McGregor is in the headlines once again. While visiting Liverpool, across the Irish sea from his home in Dublin, McGregor has, once more, been involved in a bar brawl. Or has he?
Social media posts and a Merseyside Police statement released to Mirror Fighting seemed to suggest so: “We were called to The Saddle pub in Prenton, Wirral, at 7.50 p.m. last night, Tuesday, July 18, to reports of an altercation.
Conor McGregor Caught Leaving Pub Brawl In Liverpool
Officers attended the pub and spoke to a number of people. Further enquiries are being carried out to establish what has taken place but at this stage no complaints have been made and nobody has been arrested.”
McGregor later posted a voice note to Twitter: “Murder, murder, everybody out. Scousers on the golly. Birkenhead is McGregor’s.”
McGregor was in Liverpool to attend a funeral for his late aunt. The wake was held at a local venue, the Saddle Club. Some, claiming to be witnesses, alleged that McGregor started a brawl when he disappeared to the bathrooms with a female guest.
Management from the venue, however, offered a different version of events in a public statement: “The management would like to clarify the events of 18/7/23. Mr Conor McGregor attended an intimate family funeral here at the Saddle Club.
Subject to speculation Mr McGregor presented himself as a gentleman would when attending a family funeral. He was courteous, polite and well mannered to all our staff and members when in communal areas through the time he was here, taking pictures, signing autographs and donating to certain charities on behalf of the family.
When the incident occurred, Mr McGregor was upset by the actions of certain people attending the funeral and Mr McGregors security detail decided it necessary to leave to avoid unnecessary speculation and attention.
We would ask that you please respect our privacy and the privacy of our members. Here at the Saddle Club we offer a private and secure venue, we have held a number of high profile functions in the past and will continue to do so.
Privacy of our customers, families and guests is our priority and we will not be commenting on any speculation regarding persons attending a private function.
Any incidents that do occur are handed to and dealt with by the police directly. Kind regards. Management. The Saddle Club”.
