There are always rumors going around about what’s happening with wrestlers whether it’s about what storylines they’re in, who they’re going to feud with next, or even what company they’re going to when their contract is up.
One of the things we don’t hear too often outside of the WWE is a wrestler being sent back to the company’s developmental brand, especially when the wrestler has a solid career behind them.
Karrion Kross Being Sent Back to NXT?
In other sports like baseball or hockey, it’s basically done because the player is rehabbing an injury or has simply bottomed out in the majors and the team feels they can do more in the minor leagues.
But they also tend to have experience and are kept in the top league as leaders for their team.
Pro wrestling is a totally different animal as the WWE has sent established wrestlers to NXT to help develop younger talent, but also to further establish the developmental brand as a main brand.
It was announced a couple of months back that Nick Kahn wants to elevate NXT into being the WWE’s third brand, like many considered it to be under Triple H before it was shredded and rebranded NXT 2.0.
And to do that, Kahn wants to send more top tier wrestlers like Seth Rollins there to do appearances to help elevate it.
Karrion Kross looks to be the next name to head back to NXT, but for him it may be a permanent reassignment.
Heading back home
Karrion Kross has largely been a disappointment on the main roster. Whether it’s his lack of size or the larger venues, he doesn’t come across as intimidating and dominant as he did in NXT.
Because of that, there are reports that the WWE is considering moving him back to NXT full time so he can return to his previous dominant and brutal way of terrorizing the roster.
To be honest, it’s a good fit for him. He’s perfect for the smaller, more intimate venues than the larger arenas where it’s more of a festive atmosphere.
It’s not a slight on him, but not everyone can be the Undertaker or Bray Wyatt and take over an arena just by being there.
If this happens, it’ll be a short transition period and NXT will have one of their bigger stars in recent memory back.
Of course, there will be plenty of fans claiming the stink of failure and banishment to the minors is a punishment, but given what Kahn wants to achieve we see it the opposite way.
After all, the mark of a good coach is fitting his scheme to his players and putting them in the best positions to win, and that’s what this feels like to us.
