On last night’s WWE Monday Night Raw (July 24), we saw the aftermath of Kevin Owens getting beaten up by Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley when he was examined backstage and it was announced he suffered a broken bone.
Later in the night, Liv Morgan looked to avenge Raquel Rodriquez’s injury last week suffered at the hands of Ripley, but Ripley ambushed her from behind, and went Brian Pillman on her left arm with a pair of stomps on a chair.
Kevin Owens and Liv Morgan Written Off Due to Real Injuries
It’s a pretty typical way for wrestlers to be written off television whether their time with the company has come to an end, they’re taking some time off, or if they need time to deal with a real injury.
The latter seems to be the case with both superstars as it’s been announced that Owens has been working with a broken rib for a while as they wanted to close out his storyline or wait for the right time to give him time off to heal.
Morgan appears to have injured her shoulder last week as she was seen leaving the venue in a sling.
Many think it happened when she hit the barricade, and that would explain her beatdown by Ripley. What really sucks in this regard is she just came back from an injury not too long ago. Hopefully, she won’t be labeled as injury prone going forward.
It happens
It’s easy to look at wrestlers as being indestructible given what they do in the ring. Even with the matches and fights scripted, things can go wrong and there are only so many bumps a body can take before it starts breaking down.
Unlike other sports, pro wrestling doesn’t have an offseason, so the grind takes an even bigger toll on them.
It’s often been said that during the 80s, wrestlers took steroids not to improve their appearance or performance but to maintain the level they were performing at while they were exhausted, injured, etc.
Bret Hart has even said he thinks the grinding schedule wrestlers were on are a big reason why so many have passed away way too early.
The important thing is in today’s sport everyone is more mindful of the risks and medical science can help them heal and return in top form faster than before.
In the end, we’re all human and that means injuries happen. We wish Owens and Morgan a speedy recovery and we can’t wait to see them back in the ring when they’re healed.
