It’s not often the WWE is behind Charlotte Flair losing something (wink, wink), but in this case it looks like their involvement coast her a role in the upcoming “Queen of the Ring” movie.
The “Queen of the Ring” is a biopic of Mildred Burke who was the first ever million dollar female athlete and champion professional wrestler.
She pioneered the sport during an era when all women wrestling was banned in most of the country. It was co-written and directed by Ash Avildsen and it has various historical figure like Vince McMahon Sr, and Jim Cornette plays the commissioner of the NWA.
It looks like a cool project with many other names from the era like Mae Young, and given the history behind it it’s no surprise Flair wanted to be part of it.
But thanks to the WWE being involved, she lost her role to Kamille Brickhouse from the NWA and she’s not the only one as Liv Morgan was replaced by AEW’s Toni Storm.

Not in the cards
The news about Flair and Morgan not being in the movie came out thanks to Wrestling Observer Newsletter reporting on them being replaced:
“Kamille Brickhouse noted that she spent the summer filming the Mildred Burke movie ‘Queen of the Ring.’ She will be playing June Byers, who had a shoot match for the women’s world title in Atlanta with Burke in 1954 and then after winning became the dominant women’s star for the next decade. At one point Charlotte Flair was pegged for that role and had agreed to it but WWE got involved and it fell through.”
Given the timing, it looks like the WWE nixed plans for them to be part of the movie thanks to the company’s plans for SummerSlam with Charlotte Flair returning to feud with Bianca Belair as they vie for a shot at Asuka’s championship.
As for Morgan, she seem snakebit by bad luck given that she also lost her role in the movie and was recently written off WWE TV due to a real life injury.
It’s a shame given the history of the movie and what it means, but the WWE has to do what’s best for them.
Still, we would’ve liked to have seem them take part since it looks like the WWE isn’t going to be represented in the movie. Given Vince McMahon’s desire to branch into movies it’s surprising he nixed the deal for reasons only he really knows.
