So, LA Knight didn’t get the job done in the titular ladder match at WWE Money in the Bank. The briefcase went to Damian Priest—which was a shock for many in attendance and watching at home.
WWE Was Never Planning to Put the Extremely Popular LA Knight on the Road to the Major Titles with a ‘Money in the Bank’ Victory
Priest winning shouldn’t have been the biggest surprise as the company still wants to do something for the Judgment Day member. He’d been on the main roster a few years now and is regaining the momentum that WWE squandered pre-Judgment Day. However, the spotlight has been more on Rhea Ripley and Dominic Mysterio than their fellow faction members.
As for LA Knight, he has the natural charisma and mic skill where he can miss out on a MITB for now. Besides, WWE has multiple—many have said too many—title shot opportunities and title opportunities. In addition to the usual storyline opportunities there’s Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber. So, depending on how long Knight remains with WWE, he’ll at least get another MITB opportunity bar injury.
Even if he isn’t in the immediate picture for a shot at the major titles, LA Knight is definitely in the US Title picture and it’s possible we could see the title in his possession before the year is over. Knight simply has too much support from the fans for WWE not to capitalize on it.
The fans are actually interested in a superstar. This superstar excites them and connects with them. They see potential in LA Knight and WWE has to be aware of this. Now, the problem is WWE pulling the trigger on him too soon which could’ve been the situation with a MITB win.
Knight wrestles a low wear-and-tear style and hasn’t shown any indication that he is injury prone in his career. So, this wouldn’t be a Mr. Kennedy situation it could’ve been a situation like Roman Reigns’ initial babyface push. Fans were praising Reigns has being the Shield member with the most major superstar and crossover potential very early on and the company ran with it.
If you were a fan during Super Cena, you’ll have some idea of how Roman’s face run went. It was fun until it was too much. It seems as though WWE learned its lesson on that front in how LA Knight was handled at Money in the Bank.
What do you think? Should LA Knight have won at Money in the Bank? Or is the approach of “Don’t listen to the fans, the fans don’t know what they want until you give it to them” the right one for WWE to take?
