Since his passing last week, wrestlers and others from throughout the business have paid their respects and tribute to Bray Wyatt in various ways from Seth Rollins saying “Yowie wowie” in his promo to wearing armbands.
On this week’s WWE Monday Night Raw (August 28), Becky Lynch had arguably one of the best matches of the year as she defeated Zoey Stark (and Trish Stratus) in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
What was lost on us at first was the use of the tables. Stark accidently sent Trish through with when he hit her with a right, and Lynch finished off the night by putting Stark through a table on the other side when they were fighting amongst the fans.
After the match, Lynch pulled off her armband that read “BRAY” and held it up before her emotions got the better of her and she broke down as the show went off the air.
A helping hand
Lynch and her husband, Rollins, were close friends with Bray, and after the show went off the air, she remained with the fans and shared a story about how Bray helped her for a upcoming match.
After arriving on the main roster and winning the Smackdown Women’s Championship, she was scheduled for her first tables match which is won by putting one’s opponent through a table.
It’s a simple and exciting concept as it really brings out the wrestlers’ creativity on how the table will be used just as the ladders do.
But she had a problem in that she didn’t know how to set the tables up.
Everything is worked out before hand, and in a match like that chairs, tables, and so on have to be set up in the right spots for a spot to work and so on.
From the way she explained it, it sounded like she didn’t know how to pull the tables out from under the ring and set them up.
Bray came up to her and asked if she knew what to do and if she needed help. She said he went over everything with her, including the day of the match.
He had his own match to prepare for, she said, but he took his own time to work with her so she knew exactly what to do as she showed her what to do around the ring and how to set them up a table.
She closed out the story by saying that she sent two doves crashing through tables and that “This one is for Windham.”
Lynch expressed her love for Windham and the fans and high fived those closest to her to close out her tribute.
Tribute for fallen wrestlers isn’t new, but the outpouring of love and tributes show how much Bray meant to them and the business as a whole. He was a creative genius, but also a kind and loving person.
He’ll be missed.
