There was something in the air on WWE Smackdown on August 11 when Edge and Sheamus had a good natured back and forth in the ring after Edge challenged him to a match.
It wasn’t the type of storylines we’ve grown accustomed to seeing, but it also seemed perfect to set up a Edge and Sheamus tag team together down the road, but there may be another reason.
Edge to Face Sheamus in His Retirement Match on WWE Smackdown (8/18)?
Edge talked about how he was forced to retire due to his neck injury and Sheamus inspired him to come back, and Sheamus returned the favor by saying how without Edge taking time to talk with him he wouldn’t be in the WWE.
Now reports have come out that their match on August 18’s Smackdown will be Edge’s retirement match.
One for the ages
If this is indeed going to be Edge’s retirement match, we hope Vince McMahon stays out of the way and lets them have a twenty to thirty minute match that’ll tear the house down without any run ins or other shenanigans that regularly happens in important matches.
Those gimmicks have become a crutch for the WWE, and this is one time the two should be allowed to complete their match before being attacked. They can then fight off their attackers and hold the ring, but not during the match.
While it would’ve been nice to see Edge win another championship after his return, but it looks like it wasn’t meant to be. This will still be a great way for him to go out and we’re looking forward to it.
Last match, or last WWE match?
There’s been plenty of speculation lately that with Team 3-D being reunited for Impact Wrestling’s 1000 episode that we could potentially see a triple threat between the Dudleys, Edge and Christian, and the Hardy Boyz.
It’d be great to see all three share the ring again, but father time moves on and it could ruin their legacies if they’re not able to give us the type of match they want to.
Still, that’s not to say they won’t or can’t go out with a banger between the three of them and we’re all for it. We all want to rewind the clock a few years, and it’s possible the six of them could do that one more time.
The issue could be logistics and how to bring them together, but even if it’s a Legends type of thing we’d still love to see it.
