When you look at the history of WWE, there is an entire history book of legends – but the company doesn’t take every possible chance to bring familiar faces in front of crowds.
This is clear after Detroit native Kevin Nash had offered to be involved with SummerSlam 2023, but his offer fell upon deaf ears.
Kevin Nash Gave WWE An Offer To Open SummerSlam, But Idea Wasn’t Accepted
On the latest episode of his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash had the following to say about offering to kick off SummerSlam by hyping up the crowd – but being turned down.
“I asked if I could be involved. I asked if I could be the master of ceremonies of SummerSlam. I asked. Deaf ears, baby. I was hoping for just something on the ramp. ‘Welcome to Detroit.’ I would have been great with a camera crew outside of Ford Field talking with the Detroit fans and the fans from around the world that came in.”
Nash would go on to confirm that he gave WWE several months on this offer – and attended SummerSlam anyways.
“I don’t know how much more time I can give them. I gave him a couple months. I think that they think I probably would have just said, ‘Nah.’ But I would have actually done it because I was there.”
Two Hall Of Famers Shafted As Triple H Pushes For Shorter PPV Events
Instead, the show would have a cold open from Kid Rock, with an immediate lead into the match between Logan Paul & Ricochet.
While SummerSlam was a long show, having a two minute segment with a hometown hero and WWE Hall of Famer to welcome fans to one of the biggest shows of the year seems like a no brainer.
Triple H has been pushing for more compact PPV events since taking over the creative duties for the WWE main roster. SummerSlam missed out on both this segment and a match between Becky Lynch & Trish Stratus as a result.
Do you think having Nash have a quick segment would have helped or hindered SummerSlam? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
